Successful Sequences!

A routine is a sequence that you will complete the same every time you want the outcome. Whether that is a morning routine, an afternoon routine, a daily routine, an evening routine etc. It helps you to not forget anything in the hustle and bustle of life.

When we equip our children with routines, it gives them the ability to become independent as they accept the responsibility to complete task without adult supervision. Does this mean we set and forget? Absolutely not - you will need to take the time to model and scaffold by doing some practice runs until they are confident in the tasks. We all have bad days and sometimes it will happen for our kids, make sure you give grace on these days - breath and support them to complete their routine. This shows them resilience, that even on a "bad day" you can push through and feel accomplished and successful by completing a routine. TIP: provide picture cues to help develop your child's working memory.
