Software Malfunction

The definition of parenting:

Parenting or child rearing is the process of promoting and supporting the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development of a child from infancy to adulthood.

There are four styles to parenting:

1. Authoritarian (strict, high expectations, punishes not disciplines)

2. Authoritative (nurturing, sets boundaries, disciplines, guides, affectionate)

3. Permissive ( nurturing, affectionate, inconsistent boundaries, role of friend - not parent) 4. Uninvolved (detached, self-absorbed, no boundaries, little interaction).

If I were to select one of these four styles that best describes my parenting, I would say that I am authoritative. This style of parenting has come from the example my parents set for me but also in my study in becoming a Primary School Teacher. It's through this style that you have the freedom to change any undesirable behaviours. Not by punishment or ignoring but through guidance, boundaries and love.

Children don't come fully set up to function in the world, they need constant programming and upgrades through the means of us parenting them. Every time they enter a new season of life, there are bugs that need to be sorted (attitude, knowledge etc) in order to equip them. Don't give up - talk to other parents, search for understanding and then support them through. YOU'VE GOT THIS!
